AAGP Fellows Programs are bestowed upon members who have provided evidence for active participation at the AAGP and have made exemplary contributions to the field of geriatric psychiatry as clinicians, educators, scholars, researchers, or as administrators

Overview

AAGP offers three types of Fellows programs: the Fellows, Distinguished Fellows, and Future Leader Fellows.

AAGP Fellows and Distinguished
Fellows

AAGP Fellow and Distinguished Fellow are bestowed upon members who have provided evidence for active participation at the AAGP and have made exemplary contributions to the field of geriatric mental health as clinicians, educators, scholars, researchers, or as administrators.

Distinguished Fellow

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a full member in good standing of the AAGP for at least 10 consecutive years
  • Have attended at least 6 AAGP Annual Meetings as a full member
  • Show excellence in at least two of the five Evaluation Categories as demonstrated by your curriculum vitae.
  • Be sponsored by two AAGP full members who must submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf to the Membership Committee. Letters of reference should address the specific areas (clinical work, teaching, scientific/scholarly work, administration, and/or AAGP participation) that are the basis of the applicants’ case for AAGP Distinguished Fellowship.
  • Be approved by the Membership Committee and by the AAGP Board of Directors.
  • Attend an Annual Meeting Plenary in order to be installed to Distinguished Fellowship.

2024 Distinguished Fellow

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a full member in good standing of the AAGP for at least 5 consecutive years
  • Have attended at least 3 AAGP Annual Meetings as a full member
  • Show excellence in at least one of the five Evaluation Categories as demonstrated by your curriculum vitae.
  • Be sponsored by two AAGP full members who must submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf to the Membership Committee. Letters of reference should address the specific areas (clinical work, teaching, scientific/scholarly work, administration, and/or AAGP participation) that are the basis of the applicants’ case for AAGP Distinguished Fellowship.
  • Be approved by the Membership Committee and by the AAGP Board of Directors.
  • Attend an Annual Meeting Plenary in order to be installed to Fellowship.

Additional Information

Every year the membership committee will choose 15 distinguished fellows and 30 fellows. The distinguished fellows and fellows will be presented a pin and a certificate at the annual plenary.

AAGP Future Leader Fellows

AAGP Future Leaders Fellowships are bestowed upon 5 full members of AAGP (Psychiatrists and Non-Psychiatrists) who have provided evidence for active participation at the AAGP and are making exemplary contributions to the field of geriatric psychiatry as clinicians, educators, scholars, researchers, and/or as administrators. The fellowship lasts 1 year from March to March. The AAGP Future Leaders Fellows will be announced by the end of January.

Benefits of AAGP Future Leaders Fellowship

 

  • Ability to closely observe and understand the operations of AAGP board of directors and the AAGP leadership
  • Ability to meet and interact closely with national and international leaders in geriatric psychiatry
  • Greater visibility within the AAGP and or the field of geriatric psychiatry
  • Waiver of the AAGP annual meeting attendance fee to attend the plenary to attend the board of directors meeting and the plenary to receive the AAGP Future Leaders Fellowship certificate

  4. Be sponsored by one AAGP full members who must submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Letter of reference should address the specific areas (clinical work, teaching, scientific/scholarly work, administration, and/or AAGP participation) that are the basis of the applicants’ case for AAGP Future Leaders Fellowship.
  5. Be approved by the Membership Committee and by the AAGP Board of Directors.
  6. Attend the Annual Meeting Plenary in order to be installed as an AAGP Future Leaders Fellow.

How to Prepare Your Application

 

  • Describe your activities in the Evaluation Categories portion of the online application and add any supplemental information that you feel the membership committee should know about you.
    • Add your current curriculum vitae and reference letters written by AAGP members directly to the online application
