Seeking Recommendations for AAGP-PAC Congressional Candidate Support: Recommendations Due by September 1
With congressional elections coming up in November, the AAGP Political Action Committee (AAGP-PAC) is seeking suggestions from the AAGP membership regarding which candidates for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to support. The PAC will endorse candidates—incumbents or challengers, Democrats or Republicans—who have demonstrated a commitment to AAGP's legislative goals and initiatives.
The AAGP-PAC Board of Trustees will use established criteria to review candidates' voting records and sponsorship of legislation that has been supportive of issues important to AAGP. Particular attention will be given to candidates who have been leaders in advancing legislative initiatives that are components of AAGP's Legislative and Regulatory Agenda and are important to the field of geriatric psychiatry. The AAGP-PAC will compare voting records on health care issues and look for candidates who have demonstrated an interest in the health and well-being of the nation's older adults. In addition, attention will be paid to candidates who are health care providers and are interested in mental health issues. It will also be important to review the political viability of candidates, based on information gleaned from polling data and other sources.
If there are candidates that you would like the AAGP-PAC Board to consider for endorsement, please send their names, including state and political party, to AAGP no later than September 1. Please include one or two reasons for your recommendations. Send recommendations to Marjorie Vanderbilt, AAGP's deputy executive director and director of government affairs, at email@example.com.
