AAGP COVID-19 Online Trainee Curriculum

Dear trainees,

Welcome to the AAGP COVID-19 Online Curriculum!  Although there is no substitute for learning experientially through direct patient care and active 'bedside' teaching, our educational modules aim to provide you rich didactic content germane to the care of older adults.  These modules were created by members of the AAGP Teaching and Training Committee: their collective educational experience is the foundation for the content in the modules, and for the selection of our topics.

For those interested in further exploring Geriatric Psychiatry as a career opportunity, we encourage you to learn more about the AAGP Scholars program, an educational initiative for medical students and residents.

Online Consent for Participation in a Research Study

Title of Project: AAGP COVID-19 Online Trainee Curriculum Initiative

You are invited to take part in a research study conducted by Michelle Conroy, MD and Hana Ali, MD. The purpose of this research study is to collect de-identified demographic data and assess your knowledge, skills and attitudes as participants in the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) COVID-19 Online Trainee Curriculum Initiative.

If you decide to take part in this study, you will be asked to complete a 5-10-minute online survey before accessing the curriculum content. The survey includes demographic questions as well as questions on your experiences with older adults.  In addition, you will view educational videos on topics related to geriatric psychiatry, called “modules.” Each module you choose to complete will have 3 pre-test and 3 post-test questions asking your self-report of how your knowledge, skills and attitudes were affected by the educational videos. There are up to 35 modules you can view. We ask you to please view all modules and answer all associated questions. However, you may participate in any number of modules that you wish. 

Participation in this study is voluntary. You may decline to answer any questions you do not wish to answer, and you can withdraw your participation at any time by not submitting your responses to the surveys. There are no known or anticipated risks or benefits to you as a result of your participation in this study other than a possibility of loss of confidentiality.

Your responses will be kept confidential. All of the collected data will be analyzed in whole; no individual responses will be identified from the summarized results. The website used for the administration of this survey will be programmed to collect responses alone and will not collect any information that could potentially identify you. Data breaches may rarely occur--which could compromise anonymity. However, this is unlikely. The anonymous dataset will be maintained on a password-protected computer database with restricted access. Only the researcher will have access to the study data. The data will be electronically archived for an indeterminate duration after completion of the study. Results obtained from this study may be presented at conferences or published in academic journals.
