Eligibility Criteria for AAGP Distinguished Fellow and Fellow

AAGP Distinguished Fellow and Fellow are bestowed upon members who have provided evidence for active participation at the AAGP and have made exemplary contributions to the field of geriatric mental health as clinicians, educators, scholars, researchers, or as administrators. Distinguished Fellow Application
Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a full member in good standing of the AAGP for at least 10 consecutive years
  • Have attended at least 6 AAGP Annual Meetings as a full member
  • Show excellence in at least two of the five Evaluation Categories as demonstrated by your curriculum vitae.
  • Be sponsored by three AAGP full members who must submit a completed recommendation form on your behalf to the Membership Committee. Completed recommendation forms should address the specific areas (clinical work, teaching, scientific/scholarly work, administration, and/or AAGP participation) that are the basis of the applicants’ case for AAGP Distinguished Fellowship.
  • Be approved by the Membership Committee and by the AAGP Board of Directors.
  • Attend an Annual Meeting Plenary in order to be installed to Distinguished Fellowship.

Fellow Application

  • Be a full member in good standing of the AAGP for at least 5 consecutive years
  • Have attended at least 3 AAGP Annual Meetings as a full member
  • Show excellence in at least one of the five Evaluation Categories as demonstrated by your curriculum vitae.
  • Be sponsored by two AAGP full members who must submit a completed recommendation form on your behalf to the Membership Committee. Completed recommendation forms should address the specific areas (clinical work, teaching, scientific/scholarly work, administration, and/or AAGP participation) that are the basis of the applicants’ case for AAGP Distinguished Fellowship.
  • Be approved by the Membership Committee and by the AAGP Board of Directors.
  • Attend an Annual Meeting Plenary in order to be installed to Fellowship.

Additional information regarding the Distinguished Fellowship and Fellowship

  • Every year the membership committee will choose 15 distinguished fellows and 30 fellows.
  • The distinguished fellows and fellows will be presented a pin and a certificate at the annual plenary.

Deadlines:

  • Submission of completed applications: August 23
  • Completion of review of all submitted applications by membership committee: August 31
  • List of selected distinguished fellows and fellows sent to the Executive Committee for approval: September 30
  • Approval of selected distinguished fellows and fellows by the Executive Committee: October 31
  • Letters sent to selected distinguished fellows and fellows by the AAGP President: November 30
  • Names of selected distinguished fellows and fellows displayed in newsletter and public media: December 15
  • Presentation of pin and certificate to selected distinguished fellows and fellows: Plenary, Annual Meeting

How to prepare and submit your distinguished fellow or fellow application
1. Complete online application form
2. Email your current curriculum vitae to membership@aagponline.org 
3. Notify your references (who must be full AAGP members) to complete online recommendation form (two recommendations required per application). 

The application deadline is August 23 and will not be extended.
