Geriatric Psychiatrist (Portland, Maine)

The department of psychiatry at Maine Medical Center is seeking a BC Psychiatrist with certification in Geriatric Psychiatry for their Outpatient Division.

As a member of the division of geriatric psychiatry, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of a neuropsychologist, psychologist, nurse practitioner, occupational therapist, and other geriatric psychiatrists in providing both consultation services and evidence-based care to Maine’s elder population. In 2004 Maine was considered the “oldest” state in the union, with the highest median age.

The division of outpatient psychiatry works collaboratively with Maine Medical Center’s Geriatric Assessment Center. This service has a long history of providing care to Maine’s elders using a team approach. Clinics presently offered at the Geriatric Center include a Geriatric Assessment Clinic, Memory Disorders Program, and Eating and Swallowing and Falls Clinics. The Geriatric Center service offers a fellowship program in Geriatric Medicine. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the faculty of this program as well as the Department of Psychiatry.

The Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center is comprised of adult and child psychiatric residency and fellowship training programs, comprehensive outpatient treatment programs in adult, child and geriatric psychiatry, as well as inpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs.

Maine Medical Center has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and an academic medical center with a full complement of residencies and fellowships. The position involves teaching psychiatric residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program, and an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.
