The process of reviewing manuscripts for publication requires specific skills and knowledge, both as a reviewer and in the content area of the manuscript itself. Engaging in the review process may require the physician reviewer to learn new skills or fortify existing expertise in order to complete the review process effectively. By participating in this Manuscript Review CME activity, the learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate enhanced knowledge in the field of geriatric psychiatry
  2. Identify strengths and weaknesses of scientific manuscripts
  3. Communicate review feedback effectively to editors and staff

Only reviews received on time and judged as satisfactory by the Editor (Editor or Associate Editors) responsible for the particular manuscript will be eligible for CME credit. The features that contribute most importantly to the quality of manuscript reviews for the AJGP: adherence to reviewer guidelines, specificity and accuracy, completeness, usefulness of recommendations to both editors and authors, tone, internal consistency, and understanding of the needs of the journal’s readers. The reviewer should place the current work in the context of existing evidence in the area, describe the unique contributions of the current work, and comment on any inconsistencies of the current work with previous research in the area as well as any methodological or experimental issues.
